Women Wednesday - A Woman's Worth

Today's quotes focus on criticisms of what our society values in a woman. Feel free to comment!

"The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because the average man can see better than he can think." ~Author Unknown

"Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good." ~Charlotte Whitton

"Whether they give or refuse, it delights women just the same to have been asked." ~Ovid

Below is a link to a disturbing (audio) interpretation of a young woman's worth. This is an interview about a documentary film called "Priceless Value".

Throughout history, many societies have placed great hurdles for women to get access to opportunities that were already accessible to men. After the French Revolution and the adoption of copyright laws, women in France where not allowed to gain such a right in any of their works. This caused many of the women of that time to publish most of their works under the name of their husbands or fathers. Education has always been another area where women have been denied. In Iran, women are denied the opportunity to apply to many professional programs, especially the ones that could lead to a career in the higher levels of government, such as, law, religion, and politics. With these kinds of limitations, it is understandable, but grossly unacceptable, that women have to work much harder to receive even the slightest amount of consideration for their efforts.
